January 29th "Searching" - Jeff Lovett

Nearly 10,000 satellites now orbit Earth, constantly passing over our heads unseen. Searching, a photobased art installation opening Tuesday, explores the possibility of catching a first-hand glimpse of a satellite in action. Following his recent successful collaboration on Biomodd and with the support of Ohio University’s Aesthetic Technologies Lab, local artist Jeff Lovett now looks forward to exhibiting his own vision through an immersive experience. “I want to engage the viewer in a visual and verbal dialog about topics such as data overload, surveillance and observation, through the perspective of a compulsive sky watcher.” The installation presents the work of a fictional personality obsessed with satellites.

Visitors can sift through over 2000 original images in the hopes of detecting the flicker of a passing satellite. The exhibition also incorporates large-scale video projection and live image printing which creates a barrage of visual information.

Searching will appear at the Union Arts exhibition space at 15 W. Union St. 101b Athens, OH 45701; admission is free. The public is invited to attend the opening reception at 7:00 PM on Tuesday January 29th, refreshments will be available.
